Homer W. Eckerson

Homer W. Eckerson died at the age of 94 on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 1, 1931, Homer was the son of Dr. Lowell and Vivian Wilks Eckerson. He attended Poly Prep School in Brooklyn and then went to Wesleyan University where he graduated in 1953.

Homer and Sally were married in 1953. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 13, 2025.

Homer served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. Soon after he then embarked on a long career in sales for IBM, retiring in 1990. In 1992, he and Sally moved to The Landings, a community on the barrier island off Savannah, Georgia. In 2013, they relocated to The Marshes, a nearby continuing care community.

Homer and Sally raised their family in Manhasset, New York on Long Island. Both were active members of the community. Homer worked with the Manhasset Police Boys Club to run the local youth lacrosse program, which produced many famed high school and collegiate players. Recognizing his contributions, the Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame inducted Homer into its ranks in 1991. Homer also served on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Manhasset

Homer was a splendid fisherman and an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife Sally Eckerson of The Marshes at Skidaway Island; three sons and their spouses: Todd and Mary Eckerson of Simsbury, Connecticut; Wayne and Christina Eckerson of Hingham, Massachusetts; Bruce and Alice Eckerson of Fairfield, Connecticut. Homer is also survived by nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
